Everton were unable to secure their first home win of the season as they were held to a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.
The Blues dominated large parts of the weekend encounter as they looked to make amends for their midweek defeat against the Foxes.
However, a second-half Janice Cayman strike killed the Toffees' momentum and ultimately were unable to regain their rhythm.
Brian Sørensen made six changes to the team who were beaten midweek, Kathrine Kuhl and Rikke Madsen featuring for their first starts at Walton Hall Park in royal blue.
The Blues started well as an early chance came Kuhl’s way.
The Denmark international caught Leicester's Lize Kop off her line and tried to chip from 30 yards out. Her effort arrived narrowly over the bar.
Everton came close again with a superb chance 19 minutes into the first half, Heather Payne smartly played the ball into the box with Katja Snoeijs' attempt rattling off the cross bar.
Another Everton soon followed as Snoeijs played Emma Bissell down the left flank. Her effort arriving inches wide of the near post.
Walton Hall Park held its breath as Aurora Galli came close to putting the hosts ahead. Rikke Madsen's smart pass to Galli who was inches away from the Italian before goalkeeper Kop gathered to deny the midfielder an effort on goal.
Another promising effort came beckoning on the stroke of half time.
Courtney Brosnan's through ball fell to Snoeijs who played a one-two with Kuhl. The Dutch forward denied by Kop who charged off her line.
The Blues' momentum carried into the second half and were almost rewarded with an early strike after the break.
Snoeijs played the ball across goal for Madsen whose effort arrived over the bar from close range.
A series of squandered chances would eventually come back to haunt Everton as Leicester broke the deadlock on 53 minutes.
Jutta Rantala found Cayman central, she cut onto her left foot before curling the ball past Brosnan down the left side.
After the setback, the Blues struggled to regain their dominance but came close to drawing level through substitute Hanna Bennison.
Similar to Kuhl in the first half, the Sweden international spotted Kop off her line and chipped from range. Her effort arriving inches above the Leicester bar.
The visitors dug in for the remainder of Sunday's encounter, forcing Everton to a frustrating defeat.
Sørensen's side return to action next weekend with a trip to London to face Chelsea.
