Fan Advisory Board Election - FAQs

Who can apply for the Fan Advisory Board (FAB)?

Any Evertonian with a supporter number as of 1 May 2023 can apply to be considered for election to the Fan Advisory Board. However, every applicant must put forward the name of a proposer and seconder with their application and these will be verified once the application window closes. Like the applicant, proposers and seconders must have had an Everton supporter number as of 1 May 2023.

How do I apply? What do I need to do?

You can apply online here.

Submissions must include a 300-word biography and a one-minute video explaining why you are applying for the Fan Advisory Board and the skillset, knowledge and experience you would bring.

You must also declare your proposer and seconder as part of your submission (see ‘Who can apply for the Fan Advisory Board?’).

When does the application window open? When does it close?

The application window opened on Wednesday 24 May and Evertonians can apply online here.

The application window will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 11 June.

Can I withdraw from the process if I change my mind?

A candidate can withdraw from the election by submitting a notice of withdrawal. This must be confirmed in writing by contacting Everton Football Club (servicedesk@evertonfc.com) and the Fan Advisory Board Chair (Chair@efc-fanadvisoryboard.com).

Any withdrawals must be received before the ballot opens for voting on Monday 19 June.

How will the final election candidates be selected?

Once the application window closes, nominations will be reviewed by a shortlisting panel comprising two current serving FAB members, one representative of Everton Football Club, a local religious leader and a local politician or business leader.

A score will be attributed to each candidate based on their biography AND video to establish the final nine candidates who will be put forward for election.

The shortlisting process will also aim to ensure that each of the below criteria can be met by at least three of the final nine candidates:

  • One Evertonian who is a registered Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) member
  • One Evertonian representing a group with a protected characteristic as defined in the Equality Act of 2010
  • One Evertonian with no further eligibility requirements

How will I know if I have been shortlisted for election to the FAB?

Once the shortlisting process is complete, all applicants will be contacted by the Fan Advisory Board to confirm whether their application has been successful or unsuccessful.

The names and bios of the final nine candidates will then be published on Everton and FAB channels ahead of the fan vote commencing on Monday 19 June.

When will the vote open?

The vote will open on Monday 19 June and run until 11.59pm on Friday 30 June.

Details of the vote and voting process will be published on Everton and FAB channels and Evertonians with a supporter number as of 1 May 2023 will also be sent this information by email.

Who can vote?

Any Evertonian with a supporter number as of 1 May 2023 will be eligible to vote. Each voter will be asked to select their three preferred candidates. Each vote will carry equal weight and voters will be able to allocate a maximum of one vote per candidate.

How will the election result be decided and verified?

The three candidates with the highest number of votes who collectively meet the criteria outlined above (see ‘How will the final candidates be selected?’) will be declared the winners and invited to join the Fan Advisory Board once the vote has been independently verified by the Football Supporters’ Association.

How will the election result be announced?

Once the result of the fan vote has been verified by the Football Supporters’ Association, all candidates will be contacted by the Fan Advisory Board and informed whether they have been successful or unsuccessful.

The names of the three candidates elected to the Fan Advisory Board will then be published on Everton and FAB channels.

If I am a candidate, can I campaign during the voting window?

Yes, candidates may directly or indirectly promote their candidacy, but they must not accept donations or other forms of support from third parties.

Candidates are encouraged to use their social media channels and other avenues of communication to promote themselves and the FAB vote.

If I am elected, how long will I serve?

When any position on the FAB is up for election, the term to be served will be clearly publicised as part of the application process.

For 2023, the vacant seat for a Football Supporters' Association representative is a reserved position and its holder will serve a one-year term.

The other two vacant seats are unreserved positions and those elected will serve three-year terms.
