What Is Social Action?

Social action is about people coming together to help improve their lives and solve the problems that are important in their communities. It can include volunteering, giving money, community action or simple neighbourly acts. Through the commitment and skill of citizens, social action can empower communities, help people in needs and complement public services. Taking part in social action is also associated with higher levels of wellbeing and can improve people’s confidence and skills.

Social Action with NCS

In the first two stages of NCS, you’ll have gained confidence and picked up some skills to set you up for your future. In the third stage, you'll try out those new skills and get thinking like an entrepreneur with the social action stage of your NCS journey.

What Are The Benefits For Young People?

Young adults contributing to social action can help enhance their employability opportunities in the future. Everton in the Community’s social action projects will focus on both individual development as well as the impact of the project.

What Social Projects Can Young People Get Involved In?

There are a wide variety of social action projects that young people can get involved in. The different social action projects that young adults can embark on taking part in are things such as; fundraising for different charities, volunteering for different organisations or charities such as care homes or local foodbanks, campaigning for various social issues such as mental health, gun and knife crime, environmental issues and much more, regeneration of garden areas within communities to enhance and improve areas.

This year on the NCS programme young adults will have three target areas that they will have to achieve, these are;

• Campaign
• Fundraising
• Volunteering

Each group will plan a social action project that will have to achieve all three of the above, groups can work with as many charities, organisations or communities or can focus on one and hit all of the above targets for the one charity.
