The National Citizen Service is bringing life-changing experiences for young people every year, but with so much going on during the course of the programme, there's a lot to take in for participants and parents. We've created a separate FAQ guide for parents whose son's/daughter's are preparing for a trip of a lifetime with NCS this summer 2020.

Will my young person need to attend all of the keep warm sessions?

We would like all participants of NCS to attend as many keep warm sessions as they can. The keep warm sessions are there to help the young people get to know each other before they go away on residential, however, we appreciate there are genuine circumstances as to non-attendance. Please contact your NCS Support Worker if you're unable to attend.

Are the young people going to be camping during the first week and will they need to bring a tent?

The young people will be camping during the first week, however, the tents will already be provided for the young people. They will need to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow; All other kit essentials can be found on the kit list which you will be given when signing up for the programme.

Will the young people need money for the away residential?

No, you will not need any money for the week as all meals will be provided for participants, however, you are allowed to bring snacks and there is a small shop on site. We would recommend that the young people do not bring more than £10 with them.

Can they be in a tent with their friends?

Yes, the young people can stay in a tent with their friends but the tents must be single sex tents. As we get closer to departure day, we ask the young people who they would like to stay in a tent with.

What time will the young people get home on the Friday?

We aim to arrive back at Goodison Park for around 2pm. Our wave leader will make you aware if they are going to be earlier or later than planned.

What clothes do they need to bring?

The best clothes to bring are those that participants don’t mind getting wet, dirty or ripped. We would advise that they do not bring expensive clothes or footwear as there's a high chance they'll get dirty!

What do the young people need in the second week?

The second week is more community based, casual clothing is fine for that week. Again, we would advise that the young people do not bring expensive clothing or footwear in the case that they get lost or damaged during the residential.

Where is the third and fourth week?

The third week will be based at Goodison Park from 10am until 4pm each day. They are welcome to bring lunch in with them or they can go out for lunch each day. The fourth week will be dependent on where their social action project is taking place. Our staff will accompany the young people each day for both weeks.
