The Salford-born forward joined Everton 1927 after catching the eye in a string of dazzling FA Cup performances for Third Division North club Southport.

White got off to a dream start, making his debut in a 7-0 thumping of West Ham United – the forward replaced Dixie Dean to net a brace in his first appearance for the club.

His 10-year spell with the club was somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as he experienced the highs with a Division One title in 1927/28, the low of relegation for the first time in the club’s history and then promotion and FA Cup success in the following seasons.

White was described as a versatile forward and his direct approach, which endeared him to fans, meant he was often also deployed as a defender.

The Holy Trinity Old Boys graduate scored a total of 66 goals in 204 appearances for the Blues.

His only cap for England came in May 1933, when England travelled to Rome to face Italy for the first time.

Upon retirement from the game, White worked in Liverpool Docks during World War II and continued to work there until he tragically fell and died in an accident in 1967.
