Tony McNamara signed professionally for Everton in 1950 and made his debut on 1 September 1951 in a 2-1 win at Leeds United.

A week later, McNamara netted his first league goal in a home draw against Rotherham and would go on to net 22 times in 113 appearances over the next three years.

The elegant right-winger then made the infamous trip across Stanley Park to sign for Second Division Liverpool in December 1957 for a fee of £4,000.

Merseyside-born McNamara’s spell at Anfield was brief and he became the first player to appear in all four divisions within 12 months when he signed for Fourth Division side Crewe Alexandra and then Bury in the third tier.

McNamara sadly passed away at the age of 85 on 30 May 2015 following a long illness.
