Stats

Critchley signed from Stockport County in December 1926 and proved to be an excellent signing to supply Dixie Dean with the ammunition from the right wing.

Effectively signed to replace Sam Chedgzoy, who had left the previous May, Critchley was a speedy winger blessed with excellent close ball control.

During his time with the Blues, he won League Championship medals in 1927/28 and 1931/32, as well as a Division Two title in 1930/31.

Critchley’s luck in the FA cup, however, was not as enviable as he missed the 1931 final defeat through injury and again missed out on a medal in 1933 after being omitted from the side.

The flying winger scored 42 goals in 230 appearances for the Toffees before leaving for Preston North End in June 1934.
