Browell was a centre-forward who joined the club from Hull City after accumulating a prolific goalscoring record on Humberside.

The Blues clinched the deal for a fee of £1,650 in 1911 and the forward was an instant hit at Goodison – finishing as the Club’s top goalscorer for the 1911/12 campaign, despite missing half a season.

The centre-forward repeated the feat the next season by scoring 16 times in 31 games to become the Blues’ top goalscorer for the second year running.

Browell notched a total of 37 goals, including two FA Cup hat-tricks, in 60 appearances for Everton before leaving for Manchester City in October 1913.
