Stats

Roy Vernon joined Everton from Blackburn Rovers in 1960 and soon became one of the most revered strikers the club has ever had.

He forged a great partnership with ‘The Golden Vision’ Alex Young and Vernon was the top scorer with 24 goals in the Championship-winning season of 1962-63.

An expert penalty-taker and supremely powerful and accurate from any dead-ball situation, Vernon made 203 appearances for the Blues, scoring 111 goals.

He captained Everton on many occasions and won 32 caps for Wales.

He left Goodison for Stoke City in March 1965 and had later spells in South Africa and at non-league Great Harwood.
