Nick Ross

D.o.B: 06/12/1862
Birthplace: Edinburgh
Appearances: 19
Goals: 5

Signed from Preston North End in July 1888, Nick Ross joined Everton as one of most high profile footballers at the time. During his early career, he was converted from a forward to a left back, going on to become one of the finest defenders in the game. His signing was a real boost for the Club and Ross was immediately made captain as Everton embarked on the inaugural Football League campaign.

Ross, who was reportedly paid the sum of £10 per month - a significantly above-average wage for a footballer at the time - played in Everton’s first ever league fixture and scored five goals in what was his only season at the club.

Frustrated by Everton’s very disappointing eighth place finish in their first season and no doubt envious of his previous clubs success, Ross re-joined Preston North End in September 1889 after a very brief and surprising move to Linfield in Ireland.
