Mick Meagan was signed by the Blues as an 18-year-old in 1952 after being spotted by an Everton scout while playing for Irish Youth team against a Liverpool County side.

He witnessed first-hand the transformation from Second Division mediocrity to Division One glory, but it was not until the 1957/58 season until Meagan broke through to the first-team.

Five years later, he would pick up a League Championship winners medal as the Blues sailed to the title in 1962/63 – six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in second.

Although not the quickest, Meagan was well-known for his football brain and was often praised by teammates including Bobby Collins who said Meagan was ‘the finest exponent of the one-two pass’ he had ever played with.

He left the club for Huddersfield Town in 1964 after playing 177 games and netting one goal for the Blues.

Meagan also made 17 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and later became their first ever manager to be given total control over selecting players.
