Profile
Stats
A boyhood Evertonian, Higgins made his debut for the Club as a teenager in 1976 and went on to form an impressive central defensive partnership with Kevin Ratcliffe in the early 1980s.

Sadly, just as the Blues were on the verge of domestic and European glory, Higgins was diagnosed with a serious pelvic problem, which caused him to miss the bulk of the 1983/84 season, including the League Cup and FA Cup finals against Liverpool and Watford respectively.

Higgins made 181 appearances and scored six goals during his time with the Toffees, also serving as Club captain for a spell.

His injury problems eventually led to him leaving Goodison Park in 1984 and specialists told him he would never play football again.

He was determined to prove them wrong however, and after undergoing a series of operations, fought his way back to fitness to make nine appearances for Manchester United.

Higgins later had stints with Bury and Stoke City before retiring from the game in 1980.
