Former England Under-21 international Marcus Bent started his career as a teenager with Brentford, making his debut in the 1995/96 season and made 70 League appearances for the Bees before moving to Crystal Palace for £150,000 in January 1998.

Five goals in 28 League games for the Eagles was enough for them to double their money on the lively striker a year later, with Port Vale taking him to the Potteries in a £375,000 deal.

But it was at Sheffield United that he really established himself as a footballer of promise. He joined the Blades in October 1999 and finished top scorer for the club with 15 League goals in 32 matches that season.

Three months in to the 1999/2000 campaign, with a record of 20 goals in 48 League games, First Division promotion chasers Blackburn Rovers splashed out £2.1m to take him to Ewood Park.

He was a regular in the side that finished runners-up to Fulham, scoring eight goals in 28 games that term before joining Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £3m in November 2001.

After scoring 21 goals in 51 starts for the Tractor Boys, Marcus returned to the Premiership, this time with Leicester City in August 2003 and netted 10 goals in 30 starts in one of the Foxes most troubled seasons.

He became David Moyes' first summer signing for the 2004/5 season in June 2004, putting pen to paper on a three-year-deal and costing the Blues £450,000.

A hard-working and versatile forward, Bent proved a success in his first season at Goodison and maintained that form into the 2005/06 season, scoring Everton's first league goal of the season in the 1-0 win at Bolton.

However, regular first-team opportunities became limited and Marcus joined Charlton Athletic in the 2006 January transfer window for £2.5million.

Bent was on the move again in the summer of 2007 - joining Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

He later turned out for Birmingham, Middlesbrough, QPR and Wolves and had a second spell at Sheffield United. In November 2011, he moved to Indonesia to sign on with Mitra Kukar.
