Stats
Having made the grade at Wigan Athletic, Joe Parkinson spent four years with the Latics before joining Bournemouth.

His time with the Cherries was a brief one, as a move to Everton soon followed.

Parkinson was not actually signed by a Blues manager when he made the switch in December 1993 – Howard Kendall had resigned and Mike Walker had not yet been appointed – but any doubts over whether he had made the right decision were soon expunged.

He soon became a fan favourite as a hard as nails midfielder in Joe Royle’s ‘Dogs of War’ side that would go on to win the 1995 FA Cup.

However, injury would soon beset his career as a knee problem signalled the beginning of the end in April 1997. Despite battling to regain full fitness, in including multiple surgeries, he was forced to retire aged just 28 in November 1999.

After football, he briefly drove a forklift truck, but soon became a coach in the academy at first club Wigan.
