"He was blond, he was Scottish and he was a centre forward," - a description usually dusted off when describing Jim Pearson, an Everton striker of the 1970s.

However, such a mundane portrayal is perhaps unfitting. In a career that spanned four seasons for the Blues, Pearson almost racked up 100 appearances for Everton - scoring 19 goals in the process.

Billy Bingham signed the tall Scot in March 1974 for a fee of £100,000 after scoring 39 goals in 96 appearances north of the border.

An under-23 international for his country, Evertonians expected Jim Pearson to follow the example of the legendary Alex Young.

However, despite being a highly talented striker, he failed to settle at Goodison and moments of brilliance were punctuated by moments of petulance.

A string of injuries added to his frustrations and in August 1978 he was transferred to Newcastle for £70,000....where he's still living today.

"In 1997, I left Nike and went to the Far East. I went to live in Brunei for three years and I became the coach for the Sultan's nephew's football side, as well as a team of ex-pats. It was a great life out there - especially for my wife and kids.

"Mick Lyons was out there as well as the manager of the national team. We'd played together - and it was nice to meet up with him again. We'd often go out for two or twelve beers!

"I came back in late 1999 and I opened up the JJB Football Centres for over a year until they were up and running. At that time Walter Smith also invited me to do a bit of scouting for Everton, which I really enjoyed.

"I love watching football, doing reports on teams and individual players, but I've finished that now as the club's scouting system has changes.

"When you're an Evertonian, you stay an Evertonian as everyone knows, so it was great to be invited back and still be involved with such a great club."
