After a relatively disappointing title defence in the first season after World War I, Jock McDonald was signed in a bid to freshen up the squad.

McDonald, a £2,200 acquisition from Scottish side Airdrieonians, was a full-back who could play on either flank and enjoyed prolonged spells on both sides over his six-years and 204 appearances for the Blues.

The defender was renowned for his tackling ability and his leadership was recognised when he was made club captain for the 1921/22 season.

But his time at the club coincided with a barren spell on the pitch and McDonald could only look on as Everton lifted the league title in 1928 after leaving for New Brighton the previous summer.

He is second only to Tony Hibbert in the Club's all-time list of consecutive games without scoring.
