Joleon Lescott signed for Everton in June 2006, joining from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

Lescott was born in Birmingham and progressed through the Centre of Excellence at Wolves, making his first-team debut when he was 18-years old.

He represented England at Under 18, 20 and 21 level, playing alongside Peter Clarke (then of Everton) at the heart of the defence in the 2002 Toulon Tournament.

During Wolves' successful promotion season of 2002-03, Lescott missed just one league game and played a pivotal role in the team's 3-0 play-off win against Sheffield United at the Millennium Stadium.

Sadly for the player he missed the entire Premiership campaign after having knee surgery and in his absence Wolves slipped out of the top-flight.

He soon returned to the side though and was a regular until his switch to Goodison, ending his Molineux career with 224 appearances and 13 goals to his name.

He was voted the Wolves Supporters' Player of the Year for 2005-06 and is the younger brother of Bristol Rovers defender Aaron Lescott.

An instant hit at Goodison, Lescott played in every match of the season, won the Players' Player of the Year accolade and was called up to the England 'B' international squad by Steve McClaren at the end of the campaign.

He was linked with clubs such as Real Madrid and Chelsea during the season, such was his impact in his first campaign in the Premiership. And that despite playing much of the season out of position at left-back rather than his preferred position in the centre of defence.

In October 2007, Joleon made his England debut against Estonia - coming on as a half-time substitute at Wembley.

The England international agreed a new contract in March 2008, which will keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2012.

Lescott's performances at both left back and centre half earned him the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season awards, and a goal against Newcastle on the final day of the season meant he had finished with 10 for the season.

He continued this form in 2008/09, remaining part of the England squad and making a central defensive berth his own.

Whilst he didn't match the 2007/08 haul, Lescott still managed to bang in five goals.

In the summer of 2009, Manchester City launched a series of big money bids for the player, and he eventually switched to Eastlands after requesting a transfer.
