Liverpool-born Hope Akpan graduated through the Club's Academy and was handed his competitive debut against FC BATE Borisov in December 2009.

The following campaign, the central midfielder enjoyed a loan spell at Hull City before leaving Goodison Park in the summer of 2011 and joining Crawley Town.

Five goals in 47 league games caught the attention of Premier League Reading in January 2013, though the youngster couldn't prevent the Royals suffering relegation at the end of his first season at the Madejski Stadium.
