Gary Stevens advanced through Everton’s youth ranks, eventually making his debut in 1982.

When Howard Kendall first brought him into the side Stevens was a left-sided midfielder but he was quickly converted into a marauding right-back.

Stevens played his part in Everton's opening goal at Wembley against Watford in the 1984 FA Cup final triumph– his pace enabling him to reach a loose ball from a half-cleared cross to set up Graeme Sharp for a clinical finish.

He was also an integral part of the Everton team which won the League Championship and European Cup Winners Cup in 1985.

Stevens made 293 appearances for the Blues, scoring 14 times before moving to Glasgow Rangers in 1988.
