Everton swooped to sign Cuco Martina on a free transfer in July 2017 on a three-year deal. The defender made an invaluable contribution to the Blues' 2017/18 campaign, switching to an unfamiliar left-back role to cover for Leighton Baines during the England international's three-month injury absence.
Natural right-back Martina started and finished 16 Premier League matches on the spin during that period and made 28 appearances in all competitions across the entire season.
The Curaçao international originally moved to England to join Southampton from Dutch team FC Twente in 2015.
Having played his youth football at Dutch giants Feyenoord, Martina broke through at RBC Roosendaal before transferring to RKC Waalwijk.
He subsequently spent two years with Twente before heading to Southampton in 2015. He made 36 appearances over two seasons at St Mary's Stadium, scoring his solitary goal in a 4-0 win over Arsenal, when bending a long-range strike beyond Petr Cech.
Having made his debut against the Dominican Republic back in 2011, Martina has amassed more than 30 caps for the Caribbean nation of Curaçao and was appointed captain of his country in 2017.
