Everton snaffled Brian Harris from amateur side Port Sunlight in January 1954 and the Wirral-born youngster soon proved an astute signing.

Originally brought in as a right-winger, Harris’ versatility came in extremely useful as he was also deployed at left-wing and left-half.

In 1962/63, he was part of Harry Catterick’s championship-winning side, and though he would lose his first-team place to Tony Kay, he won it back when Kay was suspended from football for his alleged involvement in betting scandal.

Harris left the Blues for Cardiff in October 1966 – just five months after helping the Blues to a dramatic 3-2 FA Cup final win over Sheffield Wednesday.

In total, he made 358 appearances for the Toffees, netting 29 goals.
