Brett Angell. Remember him?

Most Evertonians who went to Goodison in the mid-90's would argue that they couldn't fail to forget him.

Standing at 6'4, the Wiltshire-born forward toiled endlessly on the field, but didn't get the rewards his efforts deserved.

Having netted almost a goal every other game for Southend United, Mike Walker decided to take a £500,000 gamble on the lanky striker in January 1994, but sadly for Angell, Walker and for Everton, the gamble failed to pay off.

Indeed, one goal in his 20 appearances tells the story of a frustrating fourteen-month spell at Goodison Park.

"I've got absolutely no regrets about joining Everton," admitted Angell later in his career.

"I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent here. Playing-wise, it didn't quite happen for me, but I knew I was at a great club and I appreciated every minute of being here. I was lucky to join a club like Everton."

Joe Royle sold Angell to Sunderland for £600,000 in March 1995 and although Angell struggled to make an impact at Roker Park, he went on to forge a successful career in the lower divisions.

His 17-year, sixteen-club career saw him score 163 goals in 398 starts.
