Stats

Everton signed Tony Weldon towards the end of a disappointing campaign in 1927/28, but the Scot managed to chip in with three goals in his first nine games before the season’s end.

The inside-left scored on his debut in March 1927 – a game in which the great Dixie Dean also scored to hand the Blues a 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

He went on to score seven league goals in the 1927/28 season to help the Toffees secure the title.

Known as something of a journeyman, Weldon made 74 appearances and scored 13 goals for the Toffees – more than any other club he represented.

Weldon left the club in December 1929 as Hull City paid £1,000 for his services.
