Alec Troup, who stood at only 5ft 5in tall, was affectionately known as ‘Wee Troupie’ around Goodison after signing from Dundee in January 1923.

The slight winger was renowned for his bravery but that did not stop opposing defenders from targeting Troup with a barrages of physical assaults in an attempt to stop him.

Troup was cursed with a weak collarbone and could be found strapping it up before every match in order to prevent his shoulder from popping out of place.

Despite this, Wee Troupie was one of the stars of Everton throughout the 1920s – laying on countless goals for Dixie Dean during his time at Goodison.

Dean thanked Troup after his record breaking 60-goal season in 1927/28 for the helping him make the feat possible.

The winger chipped in with 35 goals in 260 games during a seven-year spell with Everton and also won one of his six Scotland caps while with the Toffees.
