Everton splashed the cash on Falkirk pair Alex Parker and Eddie O’Hara in the summer of 1958.

Parker would go on to miss the opening three months of the season after being called up for National Service in Cyprus, but the classy full-back would soon establish himself as a first-team regular and helped Everton sail to the league championship in 1962/63 as the Blues finished six points clear of runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.

The Scotland international, who won 15 caps for his country, made a total of 220 appearances and scored five goals during his seven-year spell at Goodison Park.

A series of hamstring injuries would spell the end of Parker’s Blues career however, and he was sold to Southport for a fee of £2,000 in 1965.
