Liverpool-born goalkeeper Albert Dunlop was forced to wait six years for his first-team debut after joining the club’s youth side in 1950.

His debut, at Old Trafford, was one to remember as the Blues broke the reigning league champions’ 26-match unbeaten run with a 5-2 win.

Dunlop made regular appearances for Everton before falling down the pecking order as Gordon West took the number one jersey.

A two-year spell at Wrexham followed before a year as player-manager with Rhyl, where he controversially once selected himself to play as a forward.
