Youssef Chermiti became Everton's third signing of the 2023 summer transfer window, completing a permanent switch from Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal for an undisclosed fee.

Born and raised in the Azores, Chermiti played for local youth clubs Os Marienses, ACF Pauleta and GD Sao Pedro before joining Sporting CP's academy in 2016.

The exciting 6ft 3in striker rose through the ranks with the Lisbon giants and signed his first professional contract in July 2020 shortly after turning 16.

Having impressed for Sporting’s B team, Chermiti made his senior debut in January 2023, in a 2-2 league derby draw at city rivals Benfica.

His first start followed two weeks later as the teenage attacker set up a goal in a 5-0 home win against SC Braga and he took little time to get on the scoresheet himself, scoring in his next two matches at Rio Ave and against FC Porto.

In total, he ended his breakthrough campaign with Sporting with five goal involvements (three goals, two assists) across just 844 minutes of Portuguese Primeira Liga action. No player under the age of 20 scored on more occasions in the Portuguese top flight, while only six teenagers across Europe's top five leagues could better his contribution.

Chermiti's xG per 90 minutes is impressive, too, with his return for last campaign placing him in the top 20 players across Europe.

Born to a Tunisian father and mother from Cape Verde, Chermiti has represented Portugal at youth level, most recently scoring three goals in four games for his nation’s Under-19s.

The striker will wear the number 27 shirt for the Toffees for the 2023/24 campaign.

Contracted until: June 2027.
