Stefan joined Everton three games into the 2007/08 season.
Wessels signed from German side FC Cologne on a one-year deal.
The goalkeeper arrived on Merseyside following a seven-day trial in August.
Stefan’s career bagan at Bayern Munich and he broke into the first-team squad during the 1999/00 season, deputising for German international Oliver Kahn.
He made his debut for the Bavarian giants against Glasgow Rangers in the Champions League in 1999 and was later involved in their 2001 Champions League truimph.
However it was proving to be a difficult task to dislodge Kahn from the number one jersey and the 28-year-old joined FC Cologne in 2003 in search of first-team football.
Wessels' time at Cologne was eventful as the Club have yo-yoed from the Bundesliga One to Bundesliga Two.
Due to an injury to Tim Howard, Stefan was handed his Everton debut against Manchester United in September 2007 and continued in goal for the games against Metalist Kharkiv, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.
He made subsequent appearances against Oldham and AZ Alkmaar in the cups, but wasn't retained by David Moyes at the end of the season.
A return to Germany with VfL Osnabrück quickly materialised but the stopper was soon on the move again, joining Swiss side FC Basel.
Yet just one appearance during the 2009/10 campaign led to him being released at the end of that season and he spent six months without a club before agreeing terms with Danish outfit Odense in January 2011.
