Dutch international Royston Drenthe arrived at Everton on 31 August 2011.
The 24-year-old player offered the ability to operate at left back or on the left wing, with his searing pace an obvious threat.
His explosive displays had him marked out at as the future of the Dutch national team and earned him a big money move to Real Madrid.
After four rollercoaster years in Spain, the Premier League awaited, and Everton signed a man with time on his side and a point to prove.
Drenthe’s obvious potential saw him recruited by the Feyernoord academy at the age of just 13 and by the age of 18 he was in the first team.
He flourished at De Kuip and in the summer of 2007 came to international prominence at the European Under-21 Championships.
His dynamic displays helped the Dutch claim the title and that summer Real Madrid weighed in with a 14m Euro offer and took him to the Bernabeu.
Drenthe scored a spectacular goal on his Real debut and proceeded to hold down a regular place in his first season and at the start of his second season.
After losing his place he was latterly loaned out to Hercules where he scored four goals in 17 appearances and won praise from the Spanish press for his displays.
Real Madrid decided he was surplus to requirements in the summer of 2011 and David Moyes swooped to bring him to Goodison Park.
The winger made an immediate impact for the Blues scoring on only his second appearance in a 3-1 success over Wigan at Goodison Park. Drenthe also marked his first Premier League start with a stunning goal against Fulham, a curling effort from 30 yards after just two minutes helped the Blues to a 3-1 win.
Another fine strike came in the 2-0 FA Cup fifth round win over Blackpool, before the number 10 netted his fourth and last Blues goal in a 1-1 draw at Queens Park Rangers in March.
It was to be one of the midfielder's last outings in an Everton shirt, as after 27 appearances Drenthe's loan spell concluded with the end of the 2011/12 season, leaving the Dutchman to ponder his next move in football.
