Matthew is a versatile defender who has been at Everton since the age of 11.

Eligible to play for England, the youngster believes his strongest traits are heading and tackling and sees himself as a similar player to Phil Jagielka, who is his favourite first-team player.

A regular for Everton's Under-18s, he has also featured on a number of occasions for Alan Stubbs' reserve side.

In April 2012, Matthew travelled with the Blues to the USA for the Dallas Cup, helping his side progress all the way to the semi-finals.
