Jody Handley
  • Born: 12/03/1979
  • Birthplace: Stafford, England
  • A vastly experienced player with top physical fitness, captain Jody Handley has played a major role in the development of some of the younger players in the Everton squad.

She started her career with Wolves as a youngster in 1993 before switching to Liverpool two seasons later. In 1997, Handley played varsity soccer for the University of Detroit Mercy and was named league Newcomer of the Year.

On her return to England, Handley joined Doncaster Rovers Belles from 1999 to 2004, before switching to Everton ahead of the 2004/05 campaign.

2007/08 was an excellent season for the Handley as she scored in the Merseyside derby against her former team in October and was a constant menace to Premier League defences, netting eight goals.

During pre-season of 2008/09 Jody suffered a broken ankle but returned to the field in Spring 2009.

The midfielder was handed the captain's armband during the 2009/10 season and captained the Blues to FA Women's Cup victory in May 2010.

Jody remained an important player in the Blues' squad in the 2010/11 season and featured regularly in their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign, and the following term in the FA Women's Super League.

Jody has also represented England 38 times, scoring 6 goals.
