Gary first attracted the eye of Walter Smith when he was coming through the youth ranks at the Tynecastle Stadium.

He signed for Everton from Scottish side Hearts in October 2000.

Naysmith made over 100 appearances for the Blues but found first-team opportunities limited during the 2006/07 season.

The Scottish international ended his tenure on Merseyside after six-and-a-half years to join Sheffield United in July 2007, spending three years at Bramall Lane before completing a move to Huddersfield Town.
