The versatile midfielder arrived shortly before deadline day to boost the Blues' midfield ranks.
Vastly experienced, Barry is a Premier League winner and came to Goodison Park with over 50 England caps and having captained his country.
Born in Hastings, he was part of Brighton's youth set-up before switching to Aston Villa and making his senior debut in central defence aged just 17.
He soon became a regular for the Midlands outfit, playing in central defence, at full-back and in midfield. Barry played in the 2000 FA Cup final and shortly afterwards won his first England cap after being called up by Kevin Keegan.
He would go on to feature under every subsequent Three Lions boss.
Named Villa's Player of the Season in 2006/07, Barry's performances were beginning to catch the eye of the country's biggest clubs.
After interest from Liverpool in 2008, he eventually joined Manchester City for £12m in 2009, becoming a regular straight away.
He started City's 2011 FA Cup final win over Stoke City and played in 34 of the 38 Premier League games the following season as the Citizens marched to the title.
Barry was approaching 500 Premier League appearances when he joined the Blues and was set to move into the all-time top 10.
