About the author
View articlesThe Everton party is settling into life on the west side of the Atlantic and the body clocks of all the players and staff are slowly but surely becoming attuned to the time difference between the UK and the USA.
The players have been put through their paces in their first Stateside training session, conducted at 10am but with a burning sun still shining down on the complex based on the outskirts of Salt Lake City.
As always whenever an Everton squad stages a training session, there were a number of interested spectators in Royal Blue jerseys. One wonderful lady had left Scotland Road for Salt Lake City some 43 years ago and she had made a special placard to welcome the players.
She was delighted to meet Phil Neville and the rest of the squad and she promised to put the photographs taken on one of the walls of her Salt Lake home. She still had a ‘scouse' twang to her accent too!
The players sat patiently through a 20-minutes autograph and photo session immediately after training and there were a number of local press guys to accommodate too.
David Moyes, Tim Howard and Phil Neville conducted interviews with local tv stations and also the two local Salt Lake newspapers.
Hopefully, the pre-publicity surrounding the game will help to generate a healthy attendance when The Toffees take on Real Salt Lake on Saturday evening (3am English time).
We know that thousands of Evertonians will be watching the game despite the unfortunate UK kick-off time.
