The final weekend of the regular Football League season signalled the end of several youngsters’ loan spells up and down the country.

Shane Duffy played the 39th and final match of his stint with Yeovil Town. The Glovers already knew they had been demoted to League One and there was further disappointment as they signed off for the 2013/14 season with a 4-1 home defeat to Middlesbrough.

There was also relegation agony for Matthew Pennington, whose time with Tranmere Rovers came to its conclusion with a 2-1 loss at Prenton Park against Bradford City. The central defender opened the scoring but two late goals from the Bantams ensured that the Birkenhead club will play their football in League Two next season after finishing in 21st place.

Meanwhile, at the top of the League One table, John Lundstram got 67 minutes of action in Leyton Orient’s 3-1 victory at MK Dons. This win ensures Orient finish third in the standings and now have a two-legged play-off semi-final clash against Peterborough to look forward to.

Lundstram was up against Everton Under-21s teammate Matthew Kennedy, who has spent the last two months on loan at Stadium:MK. The young Scot played just shy of an hour before he was substituted. MK Dons have finished out of promotion contention in 10th.

In League Two, Hallam Hope was unable to continue his fine goalscoring form as Bury brought the curtain down on their season with a goalless stalemate away at Morecambe. The striker returns to Finch Farm having notched four goals in eight appearances for the Shakers.

Finally, over in Norway, Francisco Junior played the full game as Stromsgodset beat Bodo Glimt 2-0 to move up to second place in the table, two points behind league leaders Molde.
