Shane Duffy came within inches of earning Yeovil Town a priceless three points in the Championship at the weekend.

The defender is coming to the end of his one-month loan spell with the Glovers and they hosted midtable Brighton on Saturday.

And in keeping a clean sheet at one end, Duffy came closest to finding the net at the other when his header cannoned off the upright with five minutes to play.

It was to finish 0-0, however, and Yeovil now sit rooted to the foot of the table with just six points from 12 games.

Meanwhile, Luke Garbutt was another Everton loanee picking up valuable playing time as Colchester United faced two tricky away ties in the space of four days.

The Blues' left-back has been an ever-present since joining the U's and he picked up another 90 minutes at Brentford on Saturday.

Indeed it was Garbutt who created the opener - his pinpoint free-kick was the ideal delivery for Magnus Okuonghae to fire home on 49 minutes.

It proved to be mere consolation though, with the Bees stunning their opponents with three goals in the final 14 minutes to seal a 3-1 win.

There was to be better fortune on the road on Tuesday evening, as the U's picked up a point against Shrewsbury - a side they sit level on points with in the table.

It was another full run-out for Garbutt, as he helped his side to a 1-1 draw despite going behind after just three minutes.

United now sit 16th in League One having garnered 13 points from as many games.

There was to be no on-loan experience gained for Francisco Junior this week, as he missed out in a dramatic five-goal thriller.

The midfielder is on a season-long spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie and his side found themselves 2-0 down after 49 minutes at Heerenveen.

But three goals from Chelsea loanees - two from Lucas Piazon and one in injury-time from Patrick van Aanholt - nicked the points and pushed the Dutch club above their opponents into sixth.
