It was a mixed weekend for Everton’s loan contingent with three players tasting victory, three suffering defeat and one involved in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

John Lundstram and Shane Duffy both played the full duration of Yeovil Town’s excellent 2-0 win away at Birmingham City. The Glovers were in danger of being cut adrift at the bottom of the Championship but James Hayter’s first-half double secured a much-needed win at St Andrew’s. Gary Johnson’s side have now moved off the foot of the table, though they are still four points from safety.

Tyias Browning also completed 90 minutes of Championship action but it was a disappointing full Wigan Athletic debut for the young defender. The Latics went down 3-0 to Doncaster Rovers, with Browning giving away a late penalty in their reverse at the Keepmoat Stadium.

In League One, Chris Long again impressed in his second game for MK Dons. The England youth international didn’t register on the scoresheet but played the full match in the Dons’ 2-2 draw away at Bristol City.

In the same division, Luke Garbutt made the 20th appearance of his loan spell with Colchester United. It was a great day for the U’s as they triumphed 4-2 at Carlisle United to move within eight points of the play-offs.

It was the opposite story for the two Matthews, Kennedy and Pennington, who are both spending time with Tranmere Rovers. Ronnie Moore’s side remain in relegation trouble after slipping to a 3-0 defeat at Peterborough United. Both youngsters played 90 minutes at London Road.

Everton’s two other loanees, Hallam Hope and Francisco Junior, both didn’t play this weekend.

Northampton Town, where Hope is currently on loan until the end of the month, had their game away at Torquay postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, while Junior was not involved in Vitesse Arnhem’s 2-1 win over PEC Zwolle.
