GREAT TO HAVE VAUGHANY BACK

View articlesWe did well to win the West Ham game, although it was never going to be a classic bacause of the conditions.
But considering that, and the team we had out - because of injuries - it was a good performance. We showed plenty of endeavour and commitment which I am sure pleased the manager.
It's fair to say West Ham had the best of the first half, but we stuck at it and it paid off.
I was particularly pleased for young James Vaughan. It is a shame he has missed out with injuries because we were all expecting good things from him, but the way he has come back just shows what he is all about.
He scored a few weeks ago for England under 19s and that and the goal on Sunday are the rewards that he deserves. We were down to the bare bones which gave him his chance and you have to say he took it.
The number of injuries we had before and during the game meant we had players out of position. I was particularly impressed with Stubbsy when he moved forward towards the end - a real midfield maestro.
A word too for James Beattie who played out on the right for a period and put a real shift in. The attitude of these players is what the club is all about.
Ending the game with five centre halves and four centre forwards though - I've never seen anything like it!
We travel to Portsmouth this weekend and this fixture is never easy. Harry Redknapp is a great manager and the atmosphere there is always intimidating.
Harry is a great motivator and is good in the transfer market and he's invoked real progress at Portsmouth.
The recruitment of Sol Campbell was a great move and, as I predicted at the start of the season, they have started well and could cause an upset come the end of the campaign.
From a personal point of view, I am delighted that my book is going to reprint!
I have said all along that I enjoyed doing it and I only did it to tell my story. Hopefully this means people are enjoying reading it too.
