Big Weekend Letdown

View articlesAs Everton face West Brom at Goodison I have to be at Twickenham to watch England take on South Africa. I have a client function, so sadly I have to resort to following the Blues via TV screens at Twickenham and also on my phone.
This is a day on which both Everton and England must stand up and be counted. The Blues need to get a win and get the season well and truly back on track and England need revenge for that painful 2007 World Cup final defeat in Paris.
My lunch guests are an interesting collection of supporters with teams such as Everton, Derby, Arsenal, Chelsea, Besiktas and Nice represented.
The conversation gets round to Mr Moyes's comments about David Beckham – and leads to quite a few raised eyebrows.
The afternoon went from bad to awful and I actually switched my phone off at half-time as I was getting too many mocking texts from Liverpool fans! Just as well really, I have never been so glad not to make the long trip to Goodison Park, mind you England falling apart and also losing to the Springboks just made for a Saturday to forget.
I feel sorry for those that did make a long journey to see a 4-1 defeat by West Brom - the players must feel embarrassed with that result.
We can't keep saying we are unlucky, it's been said all season. Our strikers are not producing and our tactics are the same week in and week out. We really need new ideas and new blood, but Beckham is not the answer!
