David Moyes has made one change to the side that beat Spurs 3-1 on Tuesday.
Joseph Yobo makes way for Nuno Valente. The switch will see Joleon Lescott revert to his favoured centre-back position and the Portuguese player at left-back.
It is the first time the Nigerian international has missed a Premiership game for the Blues in over a year. A groin strain sustained at Spurs is the cause.
Leighton Baines is named on the substitutes bench for the first time since his move from Wigan.
Elsewhere Victor Anichebe continues upfront with Andrew Johnson and the midfield quartet of Lee Carsley, Mikel Arteta, Phil Neville and Leon Osman remain unchaged.
Summer signings Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar are on the bench for the third game running.
