Yakubu has set himself a target of more than 20 goals this season.

The Nigerian striker signed for Everton on Wednesday and declared his goalscoring aim.

Despite having a highly impressive record in the Premier League over the last four years, Yakubu is yet to break the 20 goal barrier.

But he sees his switch to Goodison as the catalyst to move to the next level.

He told evertonTV: "For the past four or five years I have scored between 16 and 19 goals.

"This is the season I need to score more than 20 goals. I am looking forward to it and it is a big challenge. I’ll have to work hard but you have to believe in yourself."

With Andrew Johnson already a proven goalscorer at the very highest level, Yakubu is looking forward to forging a successful relationship with the England striker.

"It would be nice to form a partnership with AJ," said Yakubu.

"The way he talks to me is like he has known me for ages already which is good. The relationship is there.

"I love scoring goals and I love helping my team. With the strikers we have, AJ is a good player and he can score goals, it gives me confidence. I have played with him in training which is good.

"All the players welcomed me to the club and it was unbelievable."

chris sinnottA 20 goal striker is what we've missed for a long time, now we have two strikers capable of it. And with Cahill chipping in we should not go into any game fearing anyone now.
