Everton striker Yakubu was named captain of Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations win over Mozambique.

The Super Eagles needed at least a draw against The Mambas to progress to the knockout stages and indeed took all three points, winning 3-0.

Yak took over the armband from Toffees team-mate, Joseph Yobo who missed out with a hamstring problem.

The Blues striker lasted 67 minutes before being replaced by former Newcastle United forward, Obafemi Martins. But he was on the pitch long enough to set up the second of Peter Odemwingie's two goals.

Martins scored the third with four minutes left as Shaibu Amodu's side cruised into the last eight and will now play the winners of Group D Zambia in the quarter finals on Monday.
