The progress of Yakubu is giving everyone at Everton a lift.

Steve Round says the impending return of Yakubu will give everyone at Everton a lift.

The striker has joined the Blues on their pre-season tour in North America and has been able to take part in some of the training sessions.

The Nigerian is still on the long road to recovery following the ruptured Achilles he suffered last November.

He's hoping to return to first team action in the early part of the season but this latest development has proved a real fillip.

"It’s great to see Joseph Yobo, Jack Rodwell and Stephen Pienaar all back and looking in good condition – and also Yak," Round explained to evertonTV after stepping off the training pitch in Seattle.

"It was the first day he’s trained with the team – not fully, he’s done bits and bobs with the team, but it's great to see him out on the field and it’s given everybody a lift for sure.

"When you’ve been out that long with a serious injury, it’s great to get back on the field with the lads.

"We saw a big smile on his face today."
