Yak & Yobo Suffer Defeat
Both feature as Nigeria lose to Egypt in the African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria's African Cup of Nations campaign started with disappointment as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Egypt on Tuesday.
Everton's Joseph Yobo and Yakubu both played a full 90-minutes in the clash, which took place in the Angolan city of Benguela.
Yobo, who played a central defensive role in the opening match of Group C, captained his side, with Yakubu up front.
The Super Eagles took an early lead as Chinedu Obasi cut inside the Egyptian defence and unleashed an unstoppable effort beyond goalkeeper Hadary after 12 minutes.
But ten minutes from the interval the current title holders equalised through Emad Moteab.
Early in the second half, Ahmed Hassan put Egypt in front as his powerful strike took a huge deflection off Nigeria’s Taye Taiwo and flew into the net.
And just three minutes from time a substitute Mohamed Gedo drilled a low and powerful strike past Nigerian keeper Vincent Enyeama grabbing Egypt’s third of the game.
Nigeria will face Benin on Saturday in their second match in Group C. Be sure to check out evertonfc.com to see how Yobo and Yakubu fare.
