Yak Achilles Blow

Yak Achilles Blow

David Moyes has revealed Yakubu is set to miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles.

The Nigerian international hobbled off less than 10 minutes into Sunday's 1-0 victory over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

The manager revealed afterwards that the striker, who has netted five times this term, has suffered a ruptured Achilles which is going to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

He told evertonfc.com: "Yak has ruptured his Achilles and will be out for the rest of the season and Louis has a hamstring injury which we will need to assess in the week. On the back of James Vaughan's knee injury it has really stretched us but when Victor Anichebe came on he did really well.

"Injuries happen in football but we're disappointed for Yak because he is a really important player for us and we will miss him. I have a really good Chairman and board and I'm sure they will do everything they can to help us."

It is a month before the transfer window opens, but Moyes has faith that Anichebe - the only senior striker currently fit - can step up to the plate.

He added: "Victor's going to get opportunities in the coming weeks and sometimes in life you get chances - you have to make the most of them."

Emyr JonesWhilst being gutted the Yak is out for the season, he was hardly in the form of his life, and he only had one goal to his name in the last what, eight or so games. At least this means he wont be sold in January. Can Everton apply for special dispensation to sign a striker? Or is this rule just for goalies? I have no idea. As for lower league players, i dont think we should bother. We need to buy top strikers not ones who might do well. I`d rather see baxter up front than someone like beckford. I think the Saha blow is just as bad as the Yak being out. he was starting to find some form. Cue the Toffees being linked with allsorts of strikers over the next month.

Kris AllenI can see a bid for a certain Michael Owen coming in Jan. Even if its a £5 million punt, its worth the risk on a natural goalscorer.

James WilkinsonThis is really worrying, the only striker is Victor anichebe who is capable of doing the job required, also now we can use the 4-5-1 formation that we are really good at.

joe crossei am so sorry for the yak as it is an awfull tragedy for both him and our club.this is a nasty injury and i suffered the same injury this time last year and needed surgery to correct it.i was on crutches for over three months and needed a lot of physio to help me walk again so i know what lies ahead for the yak and i really felt for him today all i can say is keep the faith yak we need you back in our beloved blue jersey as soon as possible .i wish you a speedy recovery and all the best for the future coyb .

Gareth LewisObviously not great news, but I think we have been a bit too eager to play 2 up front anyway, dangerous with no dedicated Defensive Midfielder to replace Cars. With our attack-minded midfield, and Tim Cahill in the hole behind a lone striker, we can do just as well - we made Champions League with Marcus Bent as a lone striker, so come on Vic, we know you are good enough!

Wai Kin Lowomg, why this happen when i thought things finally going well...we did so well at spurs and deserve the win but without yak and saha,it is going to be a super tough match against villa, chelsea and man city...hope we buy at least 1 or 2 strikers in january...maybe podolski or owen(both are bargain buys)
