Vic Counts On Fans
Victor Anichebe says Everton will be counting on their fans on Sunday.
Anichebe, an injury doubt for the clash with Tottenham, admits he can see why some supporters have been asking for more from the Everton players.
“I can understand why everyone was frustrated but we need the fans to stick with us and hopefully we will get through this little patch," he said.
“Tottenham are doing well at the moment, so we know it is going to be a good game.
“We haven’t played to our best and a number of things have built up – injuries and international call-ups – to take a toll. But we’ll get back to our best soon.”
The young striker is calling for perspective, with Everton not far off last season's points total at the equivalent stage.
Indeed, the Toffees were five games unbeaten before defeat at Wigan on Monday.
“This is a massive game for us,” said Anichebe. “It has been a slow season but if you look at how we compare with our points at this stage last year, it’s not too bad.
“It’s quite hard to understand what is going on in the league. Everyone is beating everyone and a couple of victories can send you flying up the table.
“It’s been hard to get good momentum going. We thought we had it during that little five game unbeaten run, but we lost it against Wigan."
