Vic Confident Of Gold
Victor Anichebe is confident of winning a gold medal at the Olympics.
The Nigerian striker is currently in Beijing with the under-23 side where they find themselves up against Belgium in the semi-finals of the competition having beaten African rivals Ivory Coast 2-0 in the quarters.
And Anichebe has revealed that he and the rest of the Super Eagles squad feel unbeatable after such a successful tournament.
The Blues striker said: “Everyone’s buzzing, we don’t think we can get beat by anyone. It’s a bit dangerous, but I’m confident.
“I wouldn’t say there’s pressure, but there’s hope, there’s hope from our country and other African countries hoping that we can go and make Africa proud.
“It would be nice if an African team can win it, but there are other teams in this tournament, South Americans as well, so it’s going to be tough, really tough.
Victor has been struggling with a foot injury up until this stage – only managing to get 10 minutes on the pitch. Yet he is ready to return for the clash with Belgium and is looking to fire his side into the final where they will face either Brazil or Argentina.
“We’ve worked really hard the past couple of years to qualify for this, and to finally get here, to finally get to the semifinal, it would be really disappointing to go home with nothing.
“I’m sure that if we go into the game with the right attitude, we’ll get the right result in the end.”
