UNSY DELIGHT AT EVERTON OPPORTUNITY
David Unsworth admits he thought the chance to face Everton again in his career had passed him by.
Having spent more than a decade plying his trade in the top flight for the Toffees - with just one season at West Ham to break-up his Goodison love-affair, the fierce defender departed the Blues in 2004.
At the start of this season, Unsworth was with Sheffield United, but didn't feature in the Blades' visit to Goodison Park.
But a free transfer to Wigan means he could well be afforded a run-out against the Toffees this weekend.
"If I am being brutally honest, yes I thought my last chance of playing Everton one more time had gone," he declared.
"Missing that game at Goodison earlier this season with Sheffield United was soul destroying.
"I wasn't involved in the first team squad that day so I took my daughter swimming. I was sat in the car listening to the commentary and had this overwhelming sense that maybe I had missed the boat in getting back one more time.
"It was a horrible feeling. It just wasn't right.
"I was sitting in my car at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon waiting for my daughter to come out of swimming and I thought 'what am I doing wrong?'."
