The Yak Is Back

The Yak Is Back

Yakubu is set to return to action for Everton's reserves on Tuesday.

The Nigerian striker will line-up against Burnley's second string after recovering from an Achilles injury suffered in November last year.

He has been gradually stepping up his rehabilitation all summer and is now ready for competitive action.

The Yak is joined in a strong Toffees side for the opening game of the campaign by the likes of Iain Turner, Dan Gosling and Jose Baxter, all of whom have senior experience.

New arrival Shkodran Mustafi will also feature, joining Moses Barnett, Shane Duffy and James McCarten in defence.

Lukas Jutkiewicz, James Wallace and Hope Akpan, reserve-team regulars from last term, are also included.

American duo Anton Peterlin and Cody Arnoux are also in the squad along with Kieran Agard, Adam Forshaw and teenage keeper Connor Roberts.

The game against the Clarets kicks off at 7pm on Tuesday at the Stobart Stadium, Widnes.

Entry for Everton Season Ticket holders is free, while entrance for other fans is £4 (adults) and £2 concessions.

James WilkinsonYakubu looks as fit as ever, he seems to be slimer, which is good news, bad news for the brunley reserves, hopefully he can feature against sigma or wigan, cant wait, ive waited ages for him and mikel to come back. Also well done everton on signing diniyar, looks like a very good player and can add the creativeness we miss from mikel. FEED THE YAK AND HE WILL SCORE!!!! (Any news on Mikels return?)

Darren HollidayC'MON!! Yakubu had an excellent scoring ratio before his dry spell and injury. He will be vital for our Top 4 push and cup runs. Welcome back, Yak!

Gary WrightLets hope everything goes well and we see him back in the first team ASAP, we need him.

Richard StenhouseIts good to hear that the YAK is back! This can only improve the quality of our strike force giving better competition to Jo, Saha, Vaughn and co. In a week that has brought about the sale of Lescott, this is even better news. Personally I can't wait for him to go so we can start spending the money! 24 mil is a good price for him, I say good luck with the misfit team that is Man City. Their over paid pre-madona's who play football not for the love of the game and for a team with prestige but for how much they get paid at the end of the week.

lee parkinThis is great news. people seem to forget we have lost our strongest players from each area of the pitch. Jags, arteta, and yak. 442 when yaks back him and saha would be a nightmare for defenders and with the number of defenders needed to mark the pair could open space for fellaini and cahill to score. Can I also say when arteta was injured i thought we lost our most creative player but pienarr as taken that role superbly so thanks stevie p. You and arteta will be able to provide the balls to unlock defences we have been missing

Monday 24th August 16:23 Report Comment

John HauI have to admit is exciting to have three class striker available to us when Yakubu finally return to action, as much excitment I am in at the moment, I feel no matter how many top class striker we have available if we can't feed good ball into them, they can't score no goal, so, until we actually buy a play maker or fast winger, to create some chance for the striker, they won't much used to us, no matter how many we have available?
