The Lowdown: Hull City v Everton
Everything you need to know ahead of Sunday's clash.
[TAB Name = Head to Head]
Head to Head
This is the seventh league meeting between the sides, and the first in the top flight.
The previous six matches took place during our time in the old Second Division between 1951-54. Our league record against Hull is:
| P | W | D | L | |
| Home | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 |
| Away | 3 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
| Total | 6 | 3 | 0 | 3 |
This is the first meeting between the clubs since we were drawn together in the FA Cup third round in January 1964, Everton triumphed 2-1 at Goodison in a replay after a 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of more than 36,000 at Hull in the first match.
The last league meeting between the sides was a 2-0 win for Everton at Goodison in September 1953, with the last meeting at Hull the month before. That game also resulted in a victory for the Toffees, by three goals to one.
This is the first meeting between the two managers, although David Moyes and Phil Brown have previously met as players when the Everton boss was with Shrewsbury (v Phil Brown’s Bolton in 1989/90) and during an FA Cup tie between Blackpool (Brown) and Preston (Moyes) in 1994/95.
[TAB Name = The Goals]
The Goals
There has been one hat-trick in matches between the sides: John Willie Parker for Everton in April 1952
Ayegbeni Yakubu has scored in five of Everton’s last six matches (six goals in total) – the only blank was against Portsmouth, when the Nigerian missed a penalty.
If the Nigerian scores on Sunday he will join Peter Beardsley (1992/93) as the only Everton player in the post-War era to find the net in the first three away league matches of a season .
[TAB Name = The Players]
The Players
There have been no players dismissed in the history of this fixture, a page of the history books no player will want to write on Sunday.
Also, it will be Mikel Arteta’s 200th match in British football should he play.
[TAB Name = Any Other Business]
Any Other Business
Everton have not won their first three away league matches of the season in the post-War era. The last occasion was 1938-39, when the Toffees won their first three league away matches on the way to the title.
Both our away wins this season have been against the two other sides promoted from the Championship.
Mikel Arteta has supplied four assists this season, twice as many as any other Premier League player.
Last season our league record in the matches played immediately after UEFA Cup games was:
| P | W | D | L |
| 9 | 4 | 1 | 4 |
Note: There was no league game between the two SK Brann fixtures.
We have conceded 3,499 away goals in top-flight matches.
Everton have gone ten matches without a clean sheet, only the second time this has happened under David Moyes. The first was a run of 14 games from March – September 2003.
Since the start of the 2006/07 season our record against sides promoted the previous season is:
| P | W | L | D |
| 14 | 11 | 3 | 0 |
Our last defeat by a promoted team was against West Ham in December 2005.
